A little quilling.
LOVE LOVE LOVEEE this. It has worked really well and i’m going continue to develop this idea. I will still continue experimenting with my other ideas too until the group decide which final idea we will use.
Quilling can be very intricate and ‘floaty’ and also very colourful. It is important for are final idea to have all of these qualities as they all represent what the...
Ideas
We have all decided to come up with some ideas each and decide on the best one to use as a final for this brief. I have had a few ideas all of which seem to use paper. I have looked back through my blog to the paper skills brief we did in the 1st year which has sparked a few ideas off.
I like Rob Ryans work as you can see from the previous posts and was thinking of ways to use this technique...
Julene Harrison & Rob Ryan
Both artists cut intricate shapes from paper and create amazing outcomes.
This is Julene Harrisons work, very delicate and ‘pretty’
The two above are pieces of work by Rob Ryan which I love. I would like to do something like this if possible for this brief. Could do a stop motion of the letters been cut out? Just an idea.
Childs Play.
To start us off with this brief we decided we needed to ‘play’ about with materials, media and letterforms to see what can be created quickly but effectively. It was a bit like a day at primary school but it certainly got me thinking about what was possible for this project.
Above is a few of them on the wall. There were 6 of us altogether so we created the alphabet. Each letter...
Sky Arts HD
I decided that I needed to look into the website and get an idea of what the channel/s are about as I have never watched sky arts before.
As you can see from the screenshot the SkyArts channel covers art and design, books, films, documentaries, music, dance, theatre and drama. It is a very ‘creative’ channel. I researched into the two channels - Sky arts 1 and Sky arts 2 to see...
POMPOM BALLS
I love this letter A. I want to produce something like this. It would work well as a motion graphic piece. with the balls swinging around.
A little bit of research
I’ve been looking at ways to create typography with craft and handmade processes. Heres a few I found interesting
Knitting/thread/cotton.
3D blocks
This looks disgusting. But I think it looks really good!
I love this!

Big art attack.

Update.
So today we have decided to work in a big lovely handmade group for this brief. One big craft family :) I loveee. We have had a few ideas but tomorrow is where it will begin :)
This is all.
for now.
Stefan Sagmeister
This book is perfect for this brief. I have this book and have never really looked at it much. Until now.
He uses everyday objects and situations to create messages through typography.
THESE ARE BANANAS. wowzazzzz! ^^
and coins. actually amazing what can be done with an every day object isn’t it!

Disgusting but works.

Final Poster.
This is my final poster. I found it really hard to fit ten figures on a portrait page and found this was the best solution. 5 of the figures are the stencil and 5 are the shadows. Im pleased with my result and have really enjoyed creating ‘shadow art’. I have learnt new skills one being how to use the laser cutter which was really interesting.
A bit of 'shadow' related fun.
This light set up was in the MOMA gallery. We had a bit of fun with it.
I asked my friends to jump and I tried to get shots of them in the air for my project number ‘10 lords are leaping’. The shadows don’t really look like the person is leaping/jumping but it was a fun 5 minutes.
NYC.
Whilst on our university trip to New York I continued to think about the shadow art project.
I really like the shadows produced from the monument on Staten Island. It is a memorial of the 270 people who died in the 9/11 terrorist attack that lived on Staten Island. Each face on the memorial is different and the shadows that are made from these are really nice .
In the MOMA gallery I...
Edited.
I have altered the contrast and brightness of the image and also got rid of the tape that was stuck to the stencil.
I like how you can see a slight reflection on the counter at the bottom of the image.
Getting somewhere.
Here we go. 10 leaping men. 5 are a shadow, 5 are a stencil. Is this allowed? I think its the only way Im going to fit them in a portrait space.
Also added the text. Its very small :S
A2 portrait poster.
How do I fit ten men in a row on a portrait poster without it looking shit?
its proving difficult.
this was a very crap attempt.
A new stencil
I dont like the figures in this stencil but the shadow does looks more like leaping figures than the other stencil does in the previous post. I am going to create another stencil using realistic figures but in the positions of the figures above to create the appearance of leaping.
My favourite image so far.
I really like this image. If i was to use this stencil for my final piece i would need to add a ground level so it looks like the shadows are leaping/jumping as at the minute the figures just appear to be dancing.
Laser Cutting.
This was what was left when the stencils were cut out. Creates an ‘inverted’ shadow.
The stencils that were cut out were too small for me to get a good shadow from. When I decide on my final piece I may use the laser cutter again. It creates much sharper and more precise edges which create good shadows but I do like the stencils i have cut out too. I will make the...
